Insulation

J met our SS on site this morning to discuss the chance of correcting the issues we have with our electricals.  Our SS put in a call to the electricians who sent someone down to have a look and see if the points in question could be moved.
It turns out that everything could be and would be fixed up as per our plan, so that is good.  Our SS really is a great guy. He is happy that we picked this up now and not once the linings were completed, or worse, later down the track.
Our insulation was well underway at this point, so with any luck we will be gyprocked by the end of the week.

Our electrical roughin is not quite right

J went by the house yesterday afternoon to check out the work of the electricians, only to find that a few things were not quite right.

Two of the three changes we made to our electrical plan prior to signing off our final documents (of which were supposed to be noted on our file that was forwarded onto Quicklec Electrical) were not changed but put in the original position.  There were other things on our original plan that were placed incorrectly or not at all.

We had parent teacher interviews this afternoon so it didn't give me a chance to go and look for myself, which only frustrated me a little more, considering I had the electrical plan printed off and prepared to take a walk through. Luckily, upon driving past on the way home from parent teacher interviews, the gates were still open so we took a very quick look at the kitchen (this was my biggest concern).

The two power points at each end of our splashback were positioned unevenly. One was set right into the corner and the other further out. There was an additional point (for light switch) on one end which wasn't correct.

We need the following alternations made:-
  • Power point in bedroom 4 moved (as per amended electrical plan)
  • Power point, tv point and extra noggins moved along the wall in bedroom 2 (they were placed in the corner)
  • Power points along cook run/splashback in kitchen repositioned and light switched moved

I was feeling pretty deflated now. J told me not to stress as he would contact our SS in the morning to get it sorted out. Fingers crossed it won't be an issue.

On a side note, our gyprock has arrived and is sitting in the dining area, and we have a new camera inside the house, in the corner overlooking the dining, living and kitchen area.  Our external camera has been removed once again.

Electrical and Air Conditioning Roughin

Today our air con and electrical roughin took place.

We made a couple of changes towards the end of admin that were just going to be noted on our file, so must get in and check this out before the gyprocking commences.

Not much else to say on the subject :)

Here is a pic J took this afternoon.

We are almost at lock up!

To my surprise our bricks were being cleaned this morning. I am a bit concerned about the bricks that had to be redone at the front of the house. I don't think the mortar would be set.

J went past the house this after afternoon and to find the bricklayer (from earlier in the week) on site and he advised that now the bricks had been cleaned it was evident that the bricks his apprentice re-laid would have to be done again as they were a bit uneven. OMG! Some of the bricks on the corner had already been taken out.

We did have our Tyrells inspection today, according to the bricklayer. There is another brick near the meter box that needs to be redone as it was not laid straight, but apart from that it is a really good job.

So next week we have our electrical and air conditioning roughin to be done, followed by insulation and gyprocking.

It is coming along nicely...we are so happy with the progress and the finish so far.

Cladding and downpipes

This week saw the eaves, downpipes and cladding done. Our bricklayer didn't install the flashing behind the bricks at the front of the house where the cladding has been installed so two rows of bricks had to be removed, flashing installed and bricks replaced.

We are still waiting on the bricks to be acid cleaned. I am not sure now if this can be done until the new mortar has had time to set.

The bricklayer informed us that our Tyrells inspection is scheduled for tomorrow. I hope so. That means we are one step closer to lock up!

Baby steps

Our eaves were installed today. I believe downpipes and cladding are to be done this week also. I am not sure when the bricks are going to be acid washed but I am hoping that it will be this week. Our SS hasn't given us any indication of when this will occur.

He did tell us that we will be at lock up by the end of the month. That is exciting!

We have a roof!

What a difference the roof makes to a house.

On my way to work this morning, I drove past the house to find that the roofers were hard at work installing our beautiful colorbond roof. Isn't it gorgeous?

Our brickwork is complete!

Our brickwork was completed today. It took the bricklayer a total of 11 days on his own to finish our house and he has done an awesome job.  Our SS said he is one of the best bricklayers in the business and that we are assured to have a beautiful house when he is finished, so I am wrapped with that endorsement!

It started raining this afternoon so I didn't get a chance to stop and take any photos but will definitely stop by on my way home over the next couple of days.

The gutters and fascia were installed late this afternoon and the roof is scheduled to go on before the end of the week. Yay!

I am soooo excited!!!

A funny thing happened tonight...

EBH email notifications a couple of times a day containing photos of your house from the onsite eye camera installed on your build site.  J had been receiving these emails every day when we had our camera on site.

Considering our camera was taken away last Tuesday he was surprised to receive an email containing a photo of "our house". However, it wasn't our house. The photo attached was of an excavated lot somewhere in Sydney.  The picture still had our job number and address on it, so it was obviously the camera taken from our site and installed at this site, but not re-programmed.

I logged on to our Onsite-Eye and sure enough, there was this vacant lot complete with details of our build.

It turns out, our camera was re-located to Fletcher.

Camera update

I emailed our SS today to ask him about our camera. Apparently when the camera was being installed, the contractors damaged a water pipe which has been leaking ever since, making the ground and the pole unstable.

The plumbers repaired the pipe yesterday and our SS tells me that once the ground dries out the camera will be re-installed.

Fingers crossed! I miss not being able to watch my house :(

Our camera is gone

This morning I logged on to our camera and was disappointed to find that it had not taken any photos since 1:14pm yesterday.

When we drove past the house later in the morning, it was gone. Removed. No longer there.

It is so disappointing. We only had it for 2 weeks.

Another day of bricking

Today is day 6. I am really happy with quality of our brickwork. Our bricklayer is doing a fantastic job (and yes, we only have one bricklayer working on our house). He thinks he will be finished by the end of the week.

The photos taken today aren't the best because of it was so bright but you can see how much he has done to date.

Bricking continued....

I took a drive past to see how much had been completed today. It looks fantastic....

While sneaking around the site to take these photos, I almost took a fall in the wet sludge on the building site from the brick clean from my neighbours house. It would have been a funny sight to see. I am just glad nobody was around. I didn't realise until the next morning that my shoes were completely covered in mud!

Here are some photos I took tonight - day two

Bricking has started

Our brickwork started today.

I think our bricklayer is doing an exceptional job.  He seems very meticulous. The work he has done so far appears to be clean and tidy. They didn't do a great deal (not that I know what to expect in a days work) but I am really happy with the quality of their work and I am more than happy to see them take a little longer if it means we are going to get a great job from them. I believe it is one bricklayer and his labourer (perhaps a father and son team).

Here are some photos from day one.

Our bricks have arrived

I drove past our house this morning to find the bricks being dropped on site. What a beautiful sight it was. Here's hoping that the sand and cement are delivered later today so that they can get started on bricking tomorrow.

The plumbers are also there this morning doing our rough in. I can see them inside the house, courtesy of the eye :)

We are good to go tomorrow....I am so excited!
